Manchester – The Facility
Based in Manchester, the Sequential Networks facility is highly resilient and able to offer a range of hosting plans from a single 1U appliance for remote off-site backup, right through to multiple full racks supporting complex hybrid-cloud architectures.
The Manchester data centre has been designed from the outset to provide the highest levels of physical security and availability.
As well as intruder alarm systems, multifactor authentication is needed to access the data centre facility. Access control is monitored by 24/7/365 onsite security and a remote network management centre.
Extensive recorded CCTV covers the outside of the colocation data centre and its immediate environment. The interior of the data centre facility is also extensively covered by CCTV, not only reception areas but work areas, corridors, hosting space and individual racks. All activity is constantly monitored and recorded.
Resilient redundant power connectivity of up to 10kW per cabinet can be provided. To protect against damaging power outages, a highly resilient power supply infrastructure is implemented at the Manchester data centre facility.
Starting with a protected on-site electrical substation, interior systems and cooling plant are further supported by high capacity battery backup and UPS and a pair of high capacity, long-run diesel generators. On-site bunkering of fuel allows for several days of completely off-grid running if required. Industrially rated switchgear ensures a smooth transition to (And from) the various electrical sources, ensuring that power quality is never compromised.

All floors are arranged with full hot and cold aisle cooling with full N+1 redundancy, delivering exceptional levels of cooling performance in the most environmental manner possible. Cooling systems are monitored by the onsite personnel and our remote network operations centre teams.
Of course, extensive fire protection and suppression systems are also in place at this facility. Both heat and VESDA smoke detection sensors are used to detect combustion. VESDA in particular is exceptionally sensitive and reactive. Coupled with the detection systems, a CO2 fire suppression system is present on all floors and secondary heat reduction and suppression systems are in place to prevent spread, adjacent systems damage and re-ignition risks.
Our on-site data centre team are an extension of the customer IT teams, providing routine maintenance and highly capable incident response. Therefore, Sequential Networks also operate a rich service model. Comprising both an on-site capability and a remote network operations centre and delivering services that range from a simple remote hands capability right through to rich managed application service capability.
